One island of about 340 km2 and six municipalities makes up the province of Siquijor, with Siquijor town as its capital and ferry port. A single coastal road circles it, past Cambugahay Falls and a centuries-old balete tree in Lazi, white-sand coves such as Salagdoong, and coral reef good for diving. Mount Bandila-an rises to about 628 m inland. The 2024 census counted 107,642 people, and travellers mostly base around San Juan, on the coast road a short ride from the port. The Spanish called it Isla del Fuego, Island of Fire, after the fireflies that swarmed its molave trees.
