A tiny island of just 10 square kilometers in the central Philippines, Boracay's four-kilometer White Beach has been repeatedly voted one of the world's best. The island was closed for six months in 2018 for environmental rehabilitation after President Duterte called it a 'cesspool.' The Ati people are the island's original indigenous inhabitants, predating tourism by centuries.
