A small island just 200km from Bangkok in Rayong province, Koh Samet is part of the Khao Laem Ya-Mu Ko Samet National Park. Its white sand beaches are composed of quartz crystal, giving them a distinctive squeaky texture underfoot. Thai poet Sunthorn Phu set his famous epic poem Phra Aphai Mani on this island in the early 19th century.
