Manila

Founded by Spanish conquistadors in 1571, Manila's Intramuros walled city was the seat of Spanish colonial power in Asia for over 300 years. The city was nearly destroyed during the Battle of Manila in 1945, the most devastating urban battle of the Pacific War. San Agustin Church (1607) and Fort Santiago remain as testaments to the city's layered colonial history.
