Montevideo
Uruguay
โLaid-back capital โ Rambla promenade, mate culture, steak paradise, safe and relaxedโ
Uruguay's capital and home to nearly half the country's population, Montevideo was founded by the Spanish in 1724 as a strategic fortress against Portuguese expansion from Brazil. The Rambla, a 22km waterfront promenade along the Rio de la Plata, is the longest continuous sidewalk in the world. The city hosted the first FIFA World Cup in 1930 at the Estadio Centenario, where Uruguay won the tournament.
