A rugged limestone island southeast of Bali, Nusa Penida was historically used as a penal colony by the Klungkung Kingdom and was considered a place of dark spiritual power. The island's dramatic cliffs, natural rock formations like Kelingking Beach (shaped like a T-rex), and crystal-clear waters have made it one of Indonesia's fastest-growing destinations. It is an important nesting site for manta rays.
