Set in a spectacular landscape of limestone karst mountains and the Nam Song River, Vang Vieng was once infamous for its dangerous tubing party scene that caused numerous fatalities. Since 2012, authorities have cracked down and the town has reinvented itself as an adventure and nature destination. The Tham Chang cave system and surrounding blue lagoons draw rock climbers and kayakers.
