Antigua Guatemala
Guatemala
โColonial gem โ cobblestone streets, volcano views, Spanish schools, growing nomad sceneโ
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Antigua served as the capital of the Captaincy General of Guatemala from 1543 until massive earthquakes destroyed it in 1773. The capital moved to Guatemala City, leaving Antigua's baroque colonial ruins frozen in time beneath three towering volcanoes โ Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. Fuego remains one of Central America's most active volcanoes, regularly sending ash clouds over the cobblestone streets.
