A tiny hill town in Sri Lanka's central highlands at 1,041m elevation, Ella sits amid tea plantations established by the British in the 19th century. The Nine Arches Bridge, built in 1921 during British colonial rule entirely from stone, brick, and cement without steel, is an engineering marvel set against misty mountains. Little Adam's Peak and Ravana Falls are surrounded by some of the world's finest Ceylon tea estates.
