Nosara sits on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, proposed in 2005 as one of the world's 'blue zones' of longevity, though a 2023 study found it fading in younger generations. North, the Ostional Wildlife Refuge protects nesting olive ridley and leatherback turtles, keeping the coast undeveloped. Population reached 9,412 in the 2022 census, over triple 2000's 2,875.
